Birding NSW come to Grenfell twice a year as part of Birding NSW’s important bird and biodiversity area surveys. Grenfell is their chosen site as it is part of the South West Slopes Key Biodiversity Area, otherwise known as one of ‘nature’s hotspots’.
In small groups, surveys are conducted in Autumn and Spring across 30 sites on both public and private land. The group generally conduct their surveys on a weekend, with Saturday being the main, official survey day. They meet for a barbecue on a private property on Saturday evening. Members of the community are then welcome to join the birding group on the Sunday at Company’s Dam to observe and record birds.
New surveyors are always welcome for the official survey but need to contact Elisabeth Karplus on emhodson@exemail.com.au to become involved.
