Join Weddin Landcare for this exciting event featuring Graham Ross from Better Homes and Gardens and Sally Sutherland from Source Architects to learn about different house and garden designs and materials to help combat the harsh Australian elements.
The day will begin with representatives from SES and RFS on how to prepare your property and home against natural hazards such as fire, flood and storms.
We will then have our guest presenter, Graham Ross from Better Homes and Gardens, to speak about functional garden design to help mitigate natural hazards and handle extremes in climate.
Graham Ross AM is a horticulturist, plantsman and garden media presenter. He started the Garden Clinic Radio Show on 2GB in 1980, and has been a gardening presenter on Better Homes & Gardens TV since 1995. He’s also publisher of the Garden Clinic Journal, the magazine of the Garden Clinic Club, Australia’s largest gardening club. Graham is a recipient of the Veitch Memorial Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society in London, only the fourth Australian given this honour since its creation in 1870. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 2020. Graham’s passion for gardening, travel and people comes together in his Ross Garden Tours.
Over an extended lunch, participants will have the opportunity to chat with Graham Ross, Source Architects and Emergency Services and have their individual questions answered.
Following lunch we will then hear from Sally Sutherland, Director and Architect from Source Architects in Orange, who are renowned for their functional building designs in the Central West. Sally will discuss some of the considerations of home design to help reduce the impact of extremes in climate (cold/heat/fire/flood/storms/hail).
Sally Sutherland is an Architect and Interior Designer, who leads regionally based practice Source Architects with her partner and fellow architect David. Committed regionalists, Sally and David established Source in 2014 initially as a traditional country architecture practice taking on a broad range of projects, including the State Award-winning Montoro Wines Cellar Door; the practice is increasingly focused on private residential projects, facilitated by intimate connections with clients, suppliers and contractors.
As a special offering, the Weddin Community Native Nursery will open from 3:00pm-4:30pm to allow workshop participants the opportunity to make any plant purchases before heading home.
This is a FREE workshop, with morning tea and lunch included, catered by Unwind in Grenfell. Please register by Sunday 24th March and note any dietary requirements in your registration or contact the event organiser.
